I know that if you buy the steam gift cards, there are no taxes. I'm not sure about credits cards

Steam prices are all inclusive, so we kind of get what we pay for. It's Steam (gamepublishers) & retailshops who pay the taxes (on paper calculations, off course as in all trades the prices are extra high to make it seem that way).

Mind you there was a post about Aus$ vs. USA$ last week, apparantly in Australia it's better to get USA$ giftcards.

You will get the amount you buy as wallet funds. No taxes for us here, money remains money though in a different form. We do pay taxes when buying soft/hardware on Steam but usually they're already included in the salesprice you see on your Store page so no worries there either.

Completely dependant on where you live. Some States and countries do tax gift cards regardless of the retailers own policy.
