Grief Stricken Dad- Help with FIRST PERSON SHOOTER (less bloody/dark) game suggestions
I lost my 23 year old daughter to Leukemia and need to "escape" a bit with video games. I got a new gaming computer yesterday and would like game suggestions. I have played Half Life and enjoyed it. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. First Person Shooter (techy, Sci-Fi)
2. GREAT story line and graphics, shoot bad guys and "monsters",
3. NOT TOO DARK, "DEMONIC" or EXCESSIVE blood/gore.

Any suggestions? I need a break from grief!

sorry to hear about your loss Mr :(
hmm you could try killing floor?
I would biased here, but you should try deus ex human revolution if you haven't tried it yet or its sequel mankind divided.
you may wish to try Team Fortress 2, which you can for free
Thanks guys! Keep the suggestions coming please! Great story line, great graphics (to showcase my new computer), Less gore, techy sci-fi stuff and first person shooter games appreciated! I won't be playing TOO much online so the story line is important to me.

Well as my friend 'Captain Mordecai t(-_- )' said, 'Deus Ex'. But if you want more to "steam" punk (more oil punk, but you get the idea) 'Dishonored' is great. Also I know this isn't a FPS or anything, but check out 'Monkey Island'. Also the Batmam: Arkham series is great!

Also I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

8 GB memory. Intel Core I5-6400 Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB
With these specs, can I play most of the newer games ya think? I'm such a newbie!
Brian,

I'd personally recommend perhaps some RTS (real-time strategy) games -- they keep the brain active, and on the game instead of other things.

With your machine, you'll be able to play a large range of games, but you might need to tone down the graphics depending on the engine/game itself and the resolution you're playing at -- which isn't a problem to do! I've had a laptop while travelling with lesser specifications than your machine and still able to play games perfectly fine.

Additionally, this isn't a Steam recommended game, but you could check out Blizzard's new game called Overwatch -- it's like playing in an animated movie. :-)
Maybe try the DOOM series :)

So sorry to hear about your loss. Borderlands 2 is still a great game with a good sense of humor and fun playstyle. Portal 2 is a little different than what you asked for, but I still can recommend it.
