How do I turn off the trumpet icon?

I don't want ads. I come here to see notifications in forums, and this trumpet icon is there, making me think there's something important, but it's just spam. Can I disable it?

The usual three windows icons.
"Big picture mode"
My username.
An envelope showing how many replies in the likes of this forum there are.
A trumpet, which glows blue if they've spammed me.

You can not turn off the Steam announcement notification icon.

You have to click on it to mark it read.

They don't post many announcements. Just about 1-2x a month depending on when sales happen.

I think this is the most sensible reply I've had. Since I managed to disable the swear filter, it mildly amused me, espeically since I can speak a little Russian.

Now before anyone reports his post, isn't tourettes a medical condition, therefore immune to any punishment?

Then because it's unwarranted spam, I guess it just makes me feel like I see the same stuff every single day. If I want to buy a game, I will look up reviews on google and pick one. Do not ram this stuff down my throat.
