Avatar pixel size

Right now im making an image for my steam profile, almost done. I just need to know the size I need to set the image, from what I been understanding it needs to be set 184x184? But iv'e also heard of 256? could use help please

Any image with is less than 100MB in size.
Size limitations on x and y don't exist but the picture will be cut in place to fix the square (150x100 to 100x100 and so on.)

It still wont let me upload my image, i dont understand what im doing wrong. im just adding the background into my image and 'visual' in small letters on bottom left

What is the size of the image that you're attempting to upload? State the dimensions.

ive went 225x350, then tried 160x160

Are you trying to upload whilst using a mobile device with the Steam App?

Avatar Size Restrictions

The maximum file size is 1024kb.
The original image may be any resolution as long as the file size is under 1024kb.  Steam Community will automatically resize the image to a square 184, 64, and 32 pixels.
If your file size is too large, you will receive the following error:
 
The file you tried to upload was too large. Please upload a file smaller than 1024kb.

no, im just on photo shop
