how to completely reset in order to escape controller hell
I bought Road Rage and wasn't happy with the keyboard controls, so I tried using my PS3 DualShock 3 controller; this is the first time I've ever used a game controller with Windows or Steam. First I installed the last pre-release of ScpToolkit, v1.7.277.16103-BETA. That seemed to work and I was playing the game acceptably with the controller. But then something prompted me if I wanted to save my configuration, which popped up Steam's controller settings, which has an option for PlayStation Configuration Support, which for some reason wasn't checked, and other meaningless options ("Guide Button Focuses Steam"?!). After trying to get out of this confusing extra stuff, the Start button on my PS3 controller no longer pauses the game. I'm lost in a terrible confusing set of controller settings with no help explaining it. How can I get back to no saved settings, no special control tweaks, no nothing, and just a PS3 controller that sort of works? Thanks for any suggestions.

Keep using SCPToolkit. Reinstall if necessary.

Disconnect controller.

Open Steam big picture go to controller config, untick all boxes, exit big picture. Closed down Steam.

Reconnect the controller.

Reboot Steam. Test.

Thanks for the tips. The one you left out, "Restart Windows," fixed it ;-) .
Now it works pretty well, except the R2 throttle often triggers Nitro when I don't double-tap, and sometimes won't do nitro when I do. I'll start a separate thread in Road Rage's Tech forum.
