That's why you did not get the XP & Steam level for the Community badge and the Autumn Sales badge you already earned.
To get trading cards from "F2P" games we need to spend money on in-game items.
To get levels from crafting badges from any set of cards you need to unlimit your Steam account by spending the equivalient of US$5,- on Steam itself (in-game does not count). Of course with these $5,- you might want to buy games that also have cards so you have some spare to trade.
When you have a complete set of cards, you can craft a badge from them. Crafting a badge will earn you XP for your Steam Level + an emoticon + a profile background.
Mind you, the carddrops are about half the amount needed for a complete set and chances are you'll get some of them twice or trice. You need to trade with friends. And if you want badges for all of your games (or specific backgrounds and/or specific emoticons) you need to buy cards on the market.
