Anyone get Dota 2 working on a mac (via VirtualBox VM)?
I have Steam/Dota 2 installed on Windows 7, which is running on a VirtualBox VM on my Mac. I click 'Play,' the screen flashes, it looks like something minimizes quickly, and then nothing happens.

Anyone gotten this setup to work?

I'm not too sure about Virtual Box, but I know Dota 2 works with Parallels Desktop 8 and VMware Fusion 5. Alternatively, you could use BootCamp.

Install the guest additions CD drivers and the 3d drivers( must be in safe mode, use F8 at boot).
in virtual box settings under display, enable 3d and 2d acceleration. then bump up video memory up to the max , mine is 255. still working on getting the brightness adjusted.

Can I ask you, why dont you install Dota 2 natively on OS X?
Sure. I just prefer to keep things separate. I use VirtualBox to do alot of testing of different applications so I try and keep the host OS pure and stable.

Try CrossOver.

I didn't ever find a solution other than just using bootcamp. (which I couldn't initially do on my mac for other reasons.)

I also didn't install natively on OS X for two reasons - the mac version didn't exist when I posted this, and the mac version of every game in my experience sucks. Maybe the dota client is great but i didn't bother.
