(Steam Client) crashes on Fullscreen Video -Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.5
Hey, this has been happening all summer and it doesn't seem to have been addressed. It's still not fixed.

Whenever I browse the steam store, and start watching a teaser/trailer/clip (movie) for any game, click full screen, the browser crashes with no error codes/messages.

I don't know if this helps, but here are my computer specs:

Apple Macbook Pro 2.3 Ghz Intel Core i7 16GB Ram v.10.8.5 (OS Mtn Lion)

Steam Client:

Built Sep. 20,2013
API v012
Package Versions:1379786203 / 1379786203

Unfortunately we do not agree with Adobe about how to fix this crash, so we have been developing a larger workaround (and slowly reducing our dependency on Flash for video). We have been working for months on a technology upgrade that will improve stability and prevent Flash from crashing the Steam client. We will begin testing it soon, but because it is a significant rewrite, it will still be at least a few weeks before we are ready to release it.

Woohoo! Thanks :-D
HenryG - Thanks for update, AWESOME - anytime one can limit the use of adobe is fantastic
I just upgraded to the latest beta, fullscreened a video, and … it didn't crash! Amazing! Unfortunately full-screen video and big picture mode still don't hide the menu bar, but nevertheless this is a huge improvement. Thanks (finally) valve!
Bump.
Clean Win7 x64 install, latest adobe flash plugin, Steam crashes on full-screen videos.
Also Clean win 7 install, with updated Adobe flash. Mine doesn't exactly crash, it locks up and continues playing the video but will not close ever, it doesn't respond to the mouse commands at all and has no way of ending the video once started ><. The only method that works is to exit the game im in.

Which game im playing has no effect on it at all.

I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro Yosemite 10.10.3 4gigs Ram, and I crash the same as first posters, my computer when trying to use fullscreen at games trailers...

What exactly should I do to use full screen on trailers (and maybe on games)?

Thanks!
Is your steam client all the way up to date? I'm haven't had this issue for a while.
Yes it is up to date. But I have Mac, no PC, if you didn't see... So it doesn't fonction the same way.
I run steam in both Mac and Windows (more often Mac) and haven't seen this crash in either place for the better part of a year. I am running the same OS version as you.

Can you tell me exactly how'd you make it work, step by step, so I can follow and check if it isn't my computer --- but the weird part is that technically speaking, I ran the game on boot camp without any difficulty one, so that'd wouldn't be the graphic card or anything...

I'll try to follow with your explanations and see where'd that get me ! :)

Thanks!!
As of June 2015 this is still happening. There were some versions of Steam where it did display full screen trailers correctly but for the last 6 months it has not. When I play a video in full screen the screen goes black and I can hear audio but not see anything.

Per a suggestion in the thread to try using a web browser, i used Chrome on the Steam site and it was able to play the same trailer full screen successfully. The problem is just in how Steam uses Flash.
Still happening on various macs with current version as of August 11th 2015. I am getting tired of years of taking support calls from customers who don't know how to use keyboard commands to quite or force quit blacked out apps. Valve needs to window the fullscreen video or disable the damn button.
windowing the video would be great. I think there was a version that did that.
Never heard f a 16GB ram pro.
