So, I got a PS3 controller to connect via bluetooth..now what?
I mean, do I need to do anything else as far as it working properly with big picture?

Does it work (in a game)? You need to actually ues the gamepad to play a game before you finish the objective (for the Steam Machines).

Plug it with the USB cable and press the home button.
Mine loses BT connection, but I'm able to play plugged in.

Weird is that even when I played a game with the controller I didn't get the hardware badge, even though I have completed all other steps. Did anybody manage to do it with PS3 controller?

yes

Ok well here's the thing, it didn't work in Limbo (I got the badge for that though), but it did work in Fez. I guess I'm just surprised because there seemed to be a lot of extra steps to get the Xbox controller to work, including adding a third party driver. I suppose I'm just surprised the PS3 one was so simple...although it doesn't appear to neccesarily work in games even that clame to support it (like Limbo). Could that be because while Steam Big Picture clearly supports PS3 remotes (it even identifies it as such when it's connected on there), some of the controller compatible games do not?

Brilliant stuff. I'll see whether I can get ahold of a PS3 controller then.

Is the process just plug-and-play?

Thank You for the info about the possibility to connect the Dualshock 3!

Download MotionJoy

Ok, well, I tried this little trick that almost seemed like voodoo to me... I think it was an older workaround designed that is no longer necessary (I have a retina Macbook).

If the plug and play method doesn't work, I guess let me know and I'll try and track down that article.

Otherwise, just keep in mind to have your bluetooth on, and that the lights will all flash and you wont be able to assign a number like with the PS3.

Also, what's Motionjoy?

would it be consitered "cheating" to use motion joy if you only have a ps3 controller

Here's an alternative way of using the Dualshock 3 without using MotionInJoy
