Nancy Drew: Application Load Error 5:0000065435

Does anyone have any clue what this error means? I bought Nancy Drew: Alibi in Ashes a few days ago, and it refuses to play. I've tried updating my MacBook Pro, updating Steam, verifying the game cache, uninstalling and reinstalling both Steam and the game, and it still refuses to play. When I click "play" in my Steam library, nothing happens. The normal desktop shortcut for games played through Steam didn't even appear after it finished installing. After a few days of trying different things, I decided to download a different Nancy Drew game (Nancy Drew: Trail of the Twister) in hopes of this one working. This time, the normal Steam desktop shortcut appeared and the icon bounces in my dock when I click it, but then I get "Application Load Error 5:0000065435". I have no idea what this means, and couldn't find anything about it on Google. I've been waiting for a response from Steam Support for four days now, and I'm getting really frustrated to the point of wanting to quit Steam all together. My computer has plenty of memory and I know it can play Nancy Drew games just fine (I just played and beat Nancy Drew: The Captive Curse this past weekend).

If anyone can please help me, I would really appreciate it!

You might want to try the same games on Big Fish Games. I know that you'll have to buy them over again but at least they work on Big Fish's engine.
I found this thread because I got the same errors trying to play "Trail of the Twister." I gave up trying to resolve the issue with Steam.

I had the same problem with Shadow at Water's Edge. From what I've heard, the Mac version of all Nancy Drew games doesn't work. I had to boot camp my Mac so I could play them as a Windows version. I tried contacting steam about the issue, I had 8 replies and still never got anywhere. They sent me towards HerInteractive and they never got back to me. I hope this gets fixed soon, but for now I've been telling people with Macs and no boot camp to not waste their money and use a friend's computer or something.

i have the excact same problem but with a different game called geometry dash it was working just fine i had no lag at all and then suddenly nothing happened when i tried to open the game but it just didnt wanna work :/

Hey everyone! I got Secret At The Water's Edge for Christmas from my brother and I've been emailing Steam since the 26th of December. They gave me a whole bunch of things to try and I got one that actually works! I'm pretty sure all Nancy Drew games have the same issue so i'm pretty sure the same will work for you.

Here's what to try:

Go to the game in your Steam library, right click the game and click properties.

Next go to Betas.

Then in the box where you can type stuff copy and paste this --> ThwEDgb5rfFw
That unlocks a certain beta thing just for this error code.

Then go to the drop down menu above and another thing should be unlocked that starts with drmfix.

Close the dialog box and try playing the game.

I have been following this thread for more than 2 years looking for a solution and had given up on ever playing them! This worked perfectly for both 'Shadow at the Water's Edge' and 'Trail of the Twister', and now I can finally play them! Thank you!

if there's anyone still finding this thread, i just did and the code worked for me for Secrets Can Kill Remastered. 2019 and hacks still work. amen.
