(I know that this is steam, but basically the game should be pretty much same even if it's on steam or plain Mac ) If anyone has a solution please share! I believe that i am not the only one having the same problem here!

I had the same problem with the old CD version. I just always assumed there was no problem, but no one's ever playing.

Can you describe what you mean by "doesn't work". Can you not get to the multiplayer menu, do servers not show up in your list, some other problem?

If you can get to the server list but they don't show up, make sure you have it set to Internet, rather than Favorites or Local.

If you try to join modded servers and it fails, try making sure you have "Allow Downloads" set to yes.

If you're not sure what the problem is, you can always contact Aspyr Support and they'll help you figure it out.

Should have purchased it on Steam. No multiplayer problems.

The Steam and MacApp versions are pretty much identical. Multiplayer works the same way, in any case. However, like SeraphSword said, "can't get it to work" doesn't really tell us what the problem is.

Well, almost. JKA as a Quake 3 engine based game is relying on a serial number for multiplayer. The MAS does not support serial numbers. In the past, other Q3 engine based games all came with the same built-in fixed serial on the MAS, which lead in some cases to complications with the multiplayer.

Anyhow, as long as SeraphSword does not specify his problems, this is speculation whether thus might be the problem here.

The problem is simple. Can't connect to any server. I get a missing file issues. Which is :
"Missing files referenced by the server, turn autodownload on or get the file elsewhere. "

I know how the game works. I used to play it on Windows before. Though it's different on Mac. It doesn't tell you which file you need to get for the server to play. Plus, most of the servers don't have ''allow download on'' I've tried pretty much connecting to every servers with Autodownload, and i kept getting the missing files problem. Out of 10 servers only 1 worked. I am not a casual gamer trying to just get into a random server, but i am trying to get on the community that i used to play.

Now the server that i trying to join is a Japlus modded server. I tried joining with the full mod installed and the Clientside files only. Kept getting the missing files problem. I don't see why the game doesn't show which files i need to get. On windows it does specify what you need. The Pk3s were also installed proprely(Atleast they are in the base folders and present in the game) I did get a message once where it tried to download the Japlus_Sabers.pk3 file that i already had. But afterwards it said once again : Missing files bla bla bla.

Now, steam and Mac are almost identical as i've seen on the JKA hub. Others who got it (For mac On Steam or on Appstore) got the same problem. I don't want to use a windows emulator on my mac to play aswell. I also contacted Aspyr support. I recieved a unhelpful answer such as : "Put Autodownload on and just try connecting to any server, you'll manage to find one which works. " or : '' Put autodownload on and find a server in which you can download the files from'' Most of the servers are different anyways.

Now what is sad with this here is that sadly the mac Version does not even say which files are missing, and also that it has trouble connecting to any servers. Even on Windows i'd have less problems connecting to a server. And i'd manage to connect with few files. To join a server on Windows, i'd only need the mod and the map. Now on mac it seems like i need other files, since connecting with the mod and the map doesn't work. But like i said, it just doesn't specify which ones are needed. Now sorry, i tried to explain the best than i could. Afterall i am french.

That definitely rules out the serial key problem I mentioned.

One thing in at advance: you obviously have no problem getting multiplayer to work, you have problems to get specific multiplayer servers to work. That's quite a difference.

Anyway, from my experience with other Q3 based games, you also get this error when there's a version mismatch. Are you sure you have exactly the same version of JA+ installed as the server uses?

There's no Serial Keys for JKA only cd's And for MAC it's only the App. Yes, it is the same version of Ja+

FYI, there is a quick fix for this problem. It will affect some of the visuals in the game, but seems to resolve the issue of not being able to connect. At least you should be able to play. This resolved it for me:

Fix for the Aspyr version (unzip and put in your base folder): http://redsaurus.net/stuff/07032013/macpk3fix.zip
