well considering the error message i got was from the operating system not the program itself and that since I repaired my disk permissions this hasn't happened again, I thought it would be at least worth mentioning. No i don't work on an IT help desk, but what would you suggest Oh Wise Master. You are clearly know of some mystic solution, so we beg of you, please empart this sacred information to us lesser mortals.

also just found this on an alternative thread, again talking about tf2 but the process should be the same. I haven't been having this issue recently so can't test it. SOunds legit tho.

Found a "solution": In the tf folder there is a Downloads folder, in the folder sometimes the bzip2 version of the map will install properly, while the .bsp won't. Just get WinRar or something to extract the .bzip2 into .bsp and you'll be good :D

Open "gameinfo.txt" in the cstrike Folder
Replace
game+download cstrike/download
with
game+download cstrike

Ok people that are reading this listen up... Posting here is not going to get the problem solved. Myself and a team of steam useres have formally filed 3 complaints against this error directly to the Steam server advisors. We have received an automated message saying that our complaint has been logged... I do not accept that we have to wait this long. If there is further dispute about this please go directly to the steam server contact and complaints on the website and log this information there and NOT here.
