how to install baldur's gate from the retail box

I was gifted the retail Baldur's Gate box with CD and Game Key and everything. Apple M1 Pro with 16GB RAM, MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1. There's a SteamRetailerInstaller.dmg on the CD but it won't run (I think it might be old 32-bit?) I'm new to Steam. What do I do to download it so I can enter the key, without paying another $60?

Aha! The gifter explained it to me. Library -> Add a game -> Activate a Product on Steam -> enter the keys from the box.

Yeah, it took me 2 days to figure that one out on my own after I got my deluxe boxed edition of BG3. Fortunately, I had already installed Steam and was playing some free games while awaiting delivery of BG3.

I sent an email to Larien's support suggesting they make a 'pinned' topic on how to install it on a Mac, but I never got a response. I'd insert the example picts I sent to Larien here, but I guess this discussion board won't allow that.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy BG3 - I am!
