Bugs I've noticed in the new client for macOS
Using MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max, Ventura 13.4
  • Cannot move client window to external monitor at a Y axis height above the internal monitor. For example, doesn't work at all with monitors in Vertical alignment (External above internal). If in horizontal alignment the window won't exceed the Y axis height of the bottom of the menu bar on the internal monitor.
  • Cursor cannot be seen in the community discussions (this..) while entering a comment.
  • I've had the new client crash or reload at least 2-3 times already where I don't recall the previous one ever crashing.

I think I've figured out the crashing. It seems to happen if I load Chrome while it's running to watch a YT video or something then close it. Seems like Steam "crashes" when I close Chrome.

Also, when the Steam client resrtarted/reloaded itself the drop down menus for like "Community" didn't show the menu items on hover. Had to quit and restart the client.

I want to add here, that the menu item "View → Hidden Games" does nothing since the update of the client.

Still having this problem a few client updates later...

On a MacBook Pro 16: assuming probably also iMac or just generally the primary display in a multi-monitor setup

1. Cannot move the steam client window higher on the Y axis than the menu bar in macOS.

Which means

2. Can't move it to a 2nd monitor AT ALL when the external monitor is arranged on top of the current display.

Hilariously I switched the arrangement to have my external monitor below the "intenral" monitor and was able to move the client to it. But then it SNAPPED below the menu bar and I could not longer move it "up" to the internal monitor. I then arranged the displays again so the external display was above the "internal" one and I could move it back down to the internal display.

It seems tl;dr you cannot move the steam client higher on the Y resolution axis in any multi-monitor scenario higher than the pixel count to the bottom of the menu bar on the primary display. Not sure why this is, but can you fix this? It's annoying not to be able to move the steam client window at will between displays.

Yeah, the thing where you can't move the Steam window to a 2nd monitor above the bottom of the status bar of the primary monitor is.. still a thing... which means you can't move it to a second monitor that's arranged above the primary. How is this still a thing. Beginning to think it's probably not fixable, someone on the dev team has had to have seen this by now.

I'm also encountering a bug that disables adding custom icons for third-party (non-Steam) games. Anyone else running into this issue?

@HFM Thanks for the hint on the monitor placement. I've added it to another thread on here about the same issue: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/3801650561760924637/
