Can't paste password to Steam.app login
hey all, I'm using OSX 10.7.5 and password vault program to store my login credentials. I am unable to paste anything into the password form on the login screen for Steam.app. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

You're not alone.

It's a stupid 'feature'.
Pasting from the clipboard into the password field is fully supported, and works just fine in our testing. Perhaps you have some other system utility which is interfering with the clipboard?
The fact of the matter is: none of the copy/paste/cut functions work in the Steam Mac GUI/environment - including in this very forum (which I just found out while writing this post).

I suspect it's a keyboard mapping problem on Steam's end.
...even when I select text within this GUI, 'right-click', select 'Copy' and then try to paste via the same submenu into this text area it does not function.
...correction: I can select-copy-paste some, but not all, text within this GUI. D'oh!
Weird - I was able to get text to paste into the login username and password fields after walking through Command+v, option+v, control+v AND THEN using the mouse submenu to paste (the keyboard shortcuts did not perform the function).
There may be some issues with the HTML-based pages, but native text fields like account name and password definitely support all the standard cut/copy/paste keyboard shortcuts on OS X. I just tested on two Macs myself. If you find otherwise, I would guess that there is some other utility interfering with your clipboard.

I have since upgraded to Mavericks and I am still experiencing this issue. I can right-click copy the password from the vault, paste into any document but not into Steam.app. I've tested this with both right-click and keyboard short-cut to no avail. I have even tried reinstalling Steam.app, nothing...

I just tried it again, command-C command-V most definitely did not work into Steam.app login. This was with OSX 10.9.4 on a MBP mid-2009, Steam.app is updated as of 10 minutes ago.

@henryg
If you can offer any suggestions or futher testing ideas I'm willing to give them a shot.
Necromancy onward. Arise thread and serve my dark purpose.

I was able to paste the password into anywhere else (like spotlight) and copy/paste into steam. Copying/pasting from KeePassX fails miserably for unknown reasons.
interesting. i had been using KeePassX as well. although it works perfectly fine on Fedora Linux and Windows 7.
Basically saying "It' works on mine" is not an answer.

The steam login does not accept pastes from copies made from some applications. I have no idea why. I use EnPass and copies from the password of that application will not paste.

Pasting them in "Notes" then copying from there, then pasting in the steam login works however.
I'm just gonna drop my two cents here. Like some of you, I'm using KeePassX. I noticed that I can't paste usernames or passwords into fields directly from keepassx, BUT I was able to paste them when the text was copied from a text editor.

Maybe the problem is with KeePassX? But it's not just you, something is going wrong here.

This post is useless. Obviously it doesn't work or people wouldn't be creating/commenting on this post. There are no "utilities" between the clipboard and Steam. Fresh OS X install, fresh Steam install, unable to copy/paste into the Steam GUI.

Go take a break and get somebody who's willing to look into the problem in here.
I can't paste my password either. Really, REALLY annoying.
I have the exact same problem. If I copy my password from KeepassX I am unable to paste it into Steam client on OS X. This requires me to paste it into a text editor first as a middle man of sorts. This is obviously very undesirable. I use KeepassX to manage all of my credentials and I do not experience this issue with any other applications.
