EDIT: just found the solution
Navigate to steam.app/contents/MacOS/package and delete the file named "beta"
Thanks bro
Right click on "Steam.app" and hit "Show Package Contents"
When you right click on the app, there will be a drop down window. Hit the second option, which should be "Show Package Contents" and you should see 1 folder named "Contents". From there, just navigate to the folder Charlie W mentioned and delete the file.
Protip: If you're getting this error, it can be due to opting into the current Steam Beta (the one with Steam Broadcasting.) It's only mentioned in the fine print, but the current Beta only works for Windows 7 and 8. It will instantly crash Steam on any other operating system, and your only option is to either delete steamui.dylib, or delete Steam itself and reinstall the app.
Is that in the patch notes for this patch specifically though? I'd think they'd at least try to have a stable branch for each OS since they are based around different bases. As it stands, with patches prior to this I could attempt to "watch game" with a friend but it would just tell me it's not compatible with my OS.
I didn't look too in depth, but it is in the patch notes. However, it's buried waaaaay down the page, and nothing anywhere except buried in the fine print does it say that the update will make your computer crash.
Well, regardless, this happened to me and the method reported above fixed the problem. Thanks for the note though! Should have scrolled farther!
