How wine works with steam?
Can wine let me play PC games from steam? and if so can it also handle complex games like Skyrim or Fallout? would I be able to run DLC, mods, etc. I want to know before I spend money on games and it doesn't actually work

Some games work totally with fine with Wine, you'll just have to do your research on a game-per-game basis. Hell, some lazy developers even slap a wineskin on their Windows games and sell that on Steam, without so much as a disclaimer on the store page.

Long story short, yes. If say you want to play skyrim, you can get a skyrim "wrapper," and in the wrapper you use wine to access steam (using a thing called wine tricks) and then you run Skyrim through the wrapper. Its like simulating steam on a windows computer, but on your mac.

Wine sucks...
Crazyboy4826 15/dez./2014 às 8:04
cool thanks for the info, do you know if it would still work correctly if I were to use mods/DLC
Wine does typically suck.

How good a game runs on Wine is nothing that can be generalized very good. The only sure thing, is that it will perform worse than it would natively.

You can do few things about it but try. There is a database on how good different applications run in Wine (https://appdb.winehq.org), but it depends a lot on your Wine version and your OS. Still, the db may often be helpful to give a general idea if it is possible to run certain games and what to do if you encounter problems.

In agreement with everything above, but also Wine is not a double-click and blam! your games work, there are whole communities devoted to optimizing games and tweaking wine configurations. It's not for the faint hearted.
