Steam Broadcasting
Tried to broadcast to my friend, I'm on a MacBook pro with OS X Yosemite, but he said that he couldn't watch it and it said steam broadcasting is currently not supported on my system. I have downloaded the steam beta update. Could it be that it isn't supported on Mac?

It's what happens when you are the 2% of Steam population.
I just posted a similar question in the Broadcasting forum... As best I can tell, despite all of Steam's PR -- Broadcasting is NOT supported on the Mac -- neither the ability originate or to receive. The simple example:
"To try out Broadcasting now, both you and your friends need to opt into the Steam Client Beta. In the Steam Client main menu, select Settings > Account and change your "Beta Participation" to "Steam Beta Update". Then follow the steps below to watch a friend's game.'

Except that the Mac Client has no "main menu" so it's hard to select "Settings."

It's at the top of the screen, where it always is. You know, the global menu bar, that switches context depending on which application is focused. Or you could use the standard Mac OS X shortcut of Command+comma, which Apple guidelines recommend all developers adhere to for their central Preferences dialog.

Although now that you mention it, I realize there may be some confusion about this. On OS X, the Preferences item is usually located in the <Application Name> menu.

Still awaiting that special period of time when I'll be able to broadcast from or stream from a Mac, and maybe an iOS client in case any of my desktop games are actually usable on a tablet. You know, extreme minority things that nobody will ever use. Certainly not worth developing totally on the side with no expectation of payment explicitly for those features.
I just have no respect or time for developers who claim to support the Mac, then refuse to use Mac/Apple nomenclature, but expect you to understand Windows Jargon and be able to translate it into Mac.

It means that the folks doing the testing and writhing the documentation do NOT use the Mac Client.

Just tested it out on my Macbook Pro; broadcasting can be RECEIVED by Macs (once you opt in for the beta), but can't be sent . . . yet. I remember reading somewhere that they were working on making it compatible for Macs in the futue, but at the moment we can only watch.

I hope us Mac users can broadcast soon.

Ahoy there, fellow goon. Yeah, it would be nice. I had to step down from the beta client because one of the last releases outright broke it with some "Failed to load steamui.dylib" error.

Nope, no Mac broadcasting in the stable release. I don't really want to test the beta release to see if it supports it yet, either.
So, it's been *how* long since they promised to implement Mac and Linux broadcasting?

Best answer I can get from Valamar. Go to the top bar and click Steam and you'll find Preferences. Then when that window opens up, click Account, and change your Beta Participation.. Enjoy!
