Just bought a new mac, STEAM FREEZES AT LAUNCH!

I'm outraged! Here I am with my brand new 16GB ram, 2.8Ghz Macbook Pro 10.10 and this is the first thing I get to deal with?

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 10.8 that has Steam on it and everything works perfectly (except the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphics card). So I open my new laptop, install steam, open, and freeze!

Where it says "log in with existing account, ps3 users log in, and create new account" I just get the rainbow pinwheel FOREVER.

All I wanna do is play Kerbal Space Program on a NICE NEW computer. WHY YOU NO WORK!

Since they started with the Steam Broadcast Beta, logging in to Steam has taken FOREVER!
The beachball just sits there spinning for over a minute normally.

How to fix:

1) Uninstall steam disk image from computer.

2) Delete all files from Steam (assuming you haven't been able to log in there are two things)

These two things are: The Steam.app itself and the Application Support Steam folder. Make sure to eject the disk image and throw away its mounter as well.

To find the Application Support Steam folder, go to finder. Use the shortcut Command+Shift+G or find "Go to Folder" in finder's "Go" menu. Find the Folder named "Steam" and delete only that folder.

3) Restart your computer BEFORE redownloading Steam.

4) After restarting, download and set up Steam.

5) ??????

6) Profit.

It's working now, I just had to wait for a Mac Security Update :-/.

Thanks so much, Widderic! I was just having a similar problem and installing a Security Update seems to have fixed it.

How to fix:
1: Sell mac
2: Buy i5 4690k
3. buy some random z97 motherboard
4. Buy a GTX970
5. Buy a case
6. Buy a powersupply
7. Buy a western digital blue
8. Buy a coolermaster hyper 212 evo
9. Buy 16 gbs of generic memory
10. Assemble said parts together that cost you less than the Mac did.
11. Run everything on ultra settings at over 60 fps

If you need a laptop go to ibuypower and buy one.

Mac is not quite good for game playing, I think.
Steam freeze on my mac sometimes, and i just delete every thing in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam, and just reinstall steam, everything works fine now

i had the same problem i restarted macbook into safe mode then started steam then it worked no beach ball ,when u set everything up restart computer back into normal mode and you should be fine.
