The beachball just sits there spinning for over a minute normally.
1) Uninstall steam disk image from computer.
2) Delete all files from Steam (assuming you haven't been able to log in there are two things)
These two things are: The Steam.app itself and the Application Support Steam folder. Make sure to eject the disk image and throw away its mounter as well.
To find the Application Support Steam folder, go to finder. Use the shortcut Command+Shift+G or find "Go to Folder" in finder's "Go" menu. Find the Folder named "Steam" and delete only that folder.
3) Restart your computer BEFORE redownloading Steam.
4) After restarting, download and set up Steam.
5) ??????
6) Profit.

If you need a laptop go to ibuypower and buy one.
Steam freeze on my mac sometimes, and i just delete every thing in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam, and just reinstall steam, everything works fine now
