Record Rocksmith 2014 (MAC)
Hi!

Sharing cause this is something I would´ve liked to see when I needed it.

I´ve spent numerous frustrating hours trying to figure out how to record my Rocksmith 2014 performance. I franticly searched every forum with the words "Rocksmith" and "Record". I found out that recording on a mac is NOT as easy of a task that it should be. PC thrives miles in this area...

Anyways, my problem was that every single recording-software recorded my clean signal, and it drove me crazy. When I rock out in my room i would like to record EXACTLY WHAT I HEAR. My love for Rocksmith lies in the ability to play alongside favourite song, with nearly original sound (as well as the learning aspect of it obviously). I've applied for a music school, and in order to gain entrance I need to send in a audiofile showing my chops. I thought I could use Rocksmith as a playback and for the effects. So my search began.

I stumbled over a program called Soundflower in combination with the built in QuickTime player. Soundflower would route my signal from Rocksmith through QuickTime player or Audacity, as well as letting me monitor my recording while I played. This was the exact solution to my problem. However this program was not updated for Yosemite, resulting in crashes in crashes and freezes.

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: I did set up my audio settings to be able to use the Rocksmith Guitar Cable with Guitar Rig 5. This is essential for getting any sound in any program outside of Rocksmith, so you should do this straight away if you haven't done it already. Open "AUDIO MIDI SETUP" and set up a combined input called "AGGREGATE DEVICE" and combine the Rocksmith Guitar Cable with your built-in output (you speakers). This will be your line in. Use you built in output for the line out.

After my first attempt with Soundflower I read about a program called "AUDIO HIJACK". This isn't just an extension/plug-in as Soundflower was. Neither does it need a external recording program. This is a fully fledged app with a user interface. And it is FREE!. Unfortunately my celebration came to a halt rather quickly when I had set up everything and hit record. There was latency. I read everywhere trying to find a solution now that I was so close. For the first time I could hit record, play and love and behold, the result was exactly what I played, only a little delayed. I wouldn't stop now.

This is the 3.1 version of Audio Hijack. Until 2015 the program was called Audio Hijack Pro, and this featured a much more advanced interface, though not such a sleek one as the 3.1.
I read that here you could adjust the latency/buffer yourself, an option removed in 3.1
On the developers, Rogue Amoebas homepage, the Audio Hijack Pro version is discontinued. So i had to get it by other means... And without much effort the result is: NO LAG!

HERE IS HOW YOU RECORD WITH AUDIO HIJACK PRO.
1. First set your mac audio settings as explained earlier in this tutorial.
2. Start a "NEW SESSION" and choose Rocksmith 2014 as your source under the input tab.
3. Under effects (and here is the trick) insert "AUXILIARY DEVICE OUTPUT" (4FX EFFECT).
4. Open Rocksmith. You might want to run in window mode, change in-game under options.
5. Press Hijack in Audio Hijack Pro, and then press bypass on the ADO under the effects tab.
6. Press record and play what you want in Rocksmith.

You're very welcome. Because you're worth it for reading

there's a signed version of Soundflower that's supposed to work with El Capitan and Sierra, but it didn't work for me (on Sierra). instead what worked is modified version of Soundflower, iShowU Audio Capture https://support.shinywhitebox.com/hc/en-us/articles/204161459-Installing-iShowU-Audio-Capture

here's a tutorial for OBS that uses that audio driver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTOCz8SorkY
