Report a translation problem
The problem is if i had an .exe file i could put it on a disk and give it to my friends or even if i was unscrupulus try to sell it, all illigal. both steam and game dev would loose money.
they could put a limit on files with some kind of DRM but its more than likely this would make your life harder with horrible protection like a few years back some DRM was so severe it wasnt worth owning the game atall, one such culpit was 'starforce' protection it made some title unplayable due to it scanning your computer for tools people use to pirate games and refusing to start if you had these tool, many of which were not even used explisitly for piracy.
a work around is to make a wine wrapper. then open winetricks in the wrapper. then go to programs in winetricks and install steam. then run steam in wine. and install said game from this location. it works. its just a pain.
