Deleting extra "duplicate" files on Mac
I am finding that I have two versions of the games I've downloaded: One in the Application Folder, and one under Library Support e.g.
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Borderlands 2/Borderlands 2 . I currently have almost 100 GB of files and I am running out of disk space.

Would it be ok to delete, say, the file in the Applications folder and replace it with an alias linking back to the file in the ~/Library file? I can't keep using 20GB per game.

Thank you!

I did too- really bugs me. I ALWAYS download to my external drive instead of my SSD. But I was trying to run Dead Island and it would not run. Someone else had some error and they posted the path to it. I went there (in user/library/app support/dead island) and I found another install? THIS ONE WORKED. I deleted the one I downloaded and have been playing the SSD instealled one. But I hate wasting space on my 500GB SSD for games. = (

what I did was "test delete" I renamed the folder I wanted to delete. then ran the game. It ran fine so I knew it wasn't accessing the directory I had renamed. After the game worked, I deleted the renamed dir and recovered the HD space. Now I have one install.

I'd sure like to be able to move SSD installed steam games to the external path. Some won't run from external. Others will, but have to be redownloaded there. I've moved them manually to find they won't work. = (
