Cannot backspace/delete/arrow keys/copy/paste within Steam.

So have reinstalled Steam completely and i experience the same issue, in as much as I cannot backspace/delete any text i enter in any of the textboxes within Steam, it also doesn't allow me to command+c/v to copy/paste or tab. It even doesn't allow me to backspace in the login window after a fresh install.
Does anyone else have this or have managed to fix? or is this just another "steam thing" we're all having to live with like the "accessibility" crud that doesnt seem to work either.
Been like this since i can remember and i've just lived with it, but its been so long now and I Cant seem to find any other references to this issue on the internet so i'm starting to think it is just me (although i have no issues elsewhere in the OS)

I have the same problem. I've asked tech support and they've tried addressing the issue, but it did not fix it. Fresh install didn't work either. Funny thing is, the keyboard works when using the steam overlay (chat while in-game with Shift+Tab). However, the moment you use it outside of the overlay, it does not work.

I'm getting this issue now on Ubuntu 14.04. It used to work just fine, but a couple of days ago it just stopped working. Copy/Paste works from menu though, but not from keyboard; full stop is broken as well.

Same issue here in Ubuntu 1404LTS Period doesn't work either, The rumor is that this onlyu involves the beta release of Steam

Same problem, been going on for about 2 years now. I don't use steam on this machine much but I would really like a fix for this now.

I am having the same issue, and I doubt Apple will do anything to fix it from their side... I wonder if the teams from steam will do something, or come up with a reason to why it has been happening. Of course I do not blame them, but it is a frustrating issue
