TF2: Players with custom characters in name causes massive fps drops.
Hello,

Ever since the Oct. 20 update, whenever I'm playing on/connect to a server that has someone with custom characters in their name like this: (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ and this: ☘ᶂᶒᶊᵵᶖᶌᶒ☘, my fps drops to around 5-15. I also noticed that if they have a lot of custom characters in their name, their name doesn't show up on my scoreboard, just their avatar.

It's to the point where the fps is so bad that TF2 is unplayable.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the font "fix" for mac clients. But it completely broke it for me. I verified my TF2 cache and it found one 27.6 mb file that was corrupt, but that didn't fix the fps drops.

Anyone else have this problem? If I'm playing an a server that has no one with custom characters in their name, my fps is anywhere from 60-100.

System specs: 21.5-inch, Mid 2010 iMac
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3
Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

yeah, someone once had like 50 spaces before saying "outube", so when it died, a huge lined appeared on my screen, my game frozed for 3-5 seconds, then it appeared twice in the kill feed.

I'm on a mac and got this problem too. The fps drops only when the name with custom characters show up in a kill on top left or when my cursor is over that player.

Has this been fixed yet? I'm thinking it might be because of a missing font.

I'm having the same issue btw, completely unplayable

Nope, still get the fps drops.

Didn't they already "fix" this? I think their "fix" broke everything else.

I am having the same issues with 10.10 osx and special characters in names ! I would suggest if things work for you at the moment don't update ! Even if you are on a pervious OSX version and don't play in any OSX updates at the moment. Some suspect that latest font updates from OSX might be the cause.
