The Application Steam is not Open Anymore - Steam on Mac
Whenever I click on the Steam icon, a finder window comes up, saying "The Application Steam is Not Open Anymore." I am running OS X Yosemite. Mid-2012 13 inch.

Same here ...
Uninstall and reinstall does not work. Did you fix this?

Yes, I got it to work by redownloading stream without uninstalling the original. I called it steam 2. Now, I just try Steam and if it dosen't work, I open Steam 2, and vice versa.

Hope this helps! Good luck

Had the same problem, simply restarting my Macbook solved the issue.

Go to activity monitor, while it is open, find the steamgameoverlay . It should be non-responsive. In that case force quit it and reopen steam. Hope this helps!

In Terminal:

ps aux | grep gameoverlayui

it will give you something like

username 1019 1.1 0.0 812552 2460 ?? S Mon07AM 14:47.92 /Applications/Steam.app/Contents/MacOS/gameoverlayui -pid 1017 -manuallyclearframes 0

second number (1019) is a process ID, so just

sudo kill -9 1019

Worked for me.

under the memory tab in the activity monitor you should see something in red that says "gameoverlay" or something similar, double click then click the button that says quit

Solution: Find Steam in your applications folder in Finder. Right click, click make copy or duplicate. When this is done (takes about 5 seconds to a minute), open the copy (Probably will be named something like "Steam 2," or "Steam Copy.") This copy should work fine. If it happens again with the copy, make another one (copy of the copy). I've had to make 4 so far... Hope it works for you!
