Windows emulators for Mac
My friend has a Mac and would like to play steam games that work for windows but not OS X. Are there any good wrappers/emulators that would make this possible? Or is it intentionally not possible?

PlayOnMac and Crossover... work as well. They are forks?/versions of Wine Bottler. And of course there is the expensive standard.. Parallels but then you need an actual windows license for that. And lately Parallels has been upgrading each year with these very little incremental upgrades which don't do much for a price.

@activeX you have to install steam on crossover.

1. First create a "bottle", I suggest a windows 7 bottle
2. Then search for "steam" in their supported applications list window that pops up ).
3. Then download the game within steam as usual.

It is a bit tricky with crossover. Sometimes the game stil worn't work so look for any "crossties" that will help with each game. This is due to the fact that ach game is different and has different windows file dependencies. Look up the specific game on the crossover website. Sometimes it works with crossover and some other times it doesn't. Most popular games work.. and if you google a bit or even search the steam forums you will find what other mac/linux gamers did to get the game to work..

Back on the crossover website, there might also be notes on what you need to tweak in order to get a specific game to work.

If you are still stuck you can always contact crossover support. They are very helpful and seem to always try their best to help you out.

By the way if you really meant to install a non-steam game then again create a windows 7 bottle or whatever the game needs. Older games are happy with windows 95/98 bottles but you might not have games that old (I do! and its a toss up if they will work really, due to the bottle machine not recognizing my 16GB Ram and such)

After that, go to "configure/install software" choose the game you want to install your game on then cross your fingers and hope it runs.

I hope I didn't miss any steps here.. I did this from memory and after launching crossover. It's a big run around I know but you will be surprised what you can get to run on crossover.
