Spinning beachball - how to fix corrupt install?
Steam was working great until the August 28 update was installed today (stupidly I installed the update despite the previous version working well).

Now, whenever I start Steam I have a spinning beachball and I am unable to do anything - I can't even backup Steam game data files. Every time I move the mouse pointer in the Steam app or on the desktop when Steam is running the app freezes and the beachball appears.

Is there any way I can manually backup game data using Finder or Terminal so that I don't lose game progress?

Is there any way that I can uninstall the Steam client having manually saved game data so that I can install an older working Steam client?

For f*** sake guys - is this a community forum or a dead zone?

I ask a basic question about a broken Steam install and not one reply even to help me to backup an install.

What a crappy forum - which given the crappy Steam software kind of makes sense I guess.

Hey dgareth,

It's not that we don't want to help, the problem is that there are many of us suffering from the same problem (see my post: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/616188677577242992/), but no one knows how to fix this.

For me, these problems began with the August 14 update and even a complete reinstall hasn't helped. At this point it seems that all we can do is to wait for an update which would fix the issues.
