"smart zoom" breaks steam for macOS

macOS has this "smart zoom" feature where you can double tap with two fingers to zoom in on something. I am able to zoom in on random parts of the steam UI (like the title bar) using this, causing it to break.

Pinch to zoom on my macbook's trackpad works normally, only zooming in on places where it should. Only this "smart zoom" seems to be causing issues.
