Local Network Game Transfers from Windows to Mac aren't very intuitive
I just tried testing the LNGT feature to download Subnautica onto my MacBook from my Windows PC, and I noticed that the download speed of LNGT wasn't any faster than downloading from the internet: it was the same speed as downloading from the internet. I had also noticed that there was no network/disk activity on the host PC that matched up with the network/disk activity on the MacBook.

From a technological standpoint, this makes sense; the Windows and macOS versions of Subnautica are two different depots with different file structures, extensions, etc. But from an end-user's perspective, it doesn't make sense. Why would both the host and client computers say that an LNGT is occuring when it isn't?

Suggestion: if an LNGT is possible (computer found on network with game files present and LNGT privacy settings configured appropriately) but the OS version of the game on the host is different to the client, don't tell the user that an LNGT is happening when it isn't.

Depends on whats actually happening. It may be checking for compatible data, not finding it, and downloading via the net as a fall back.

This makes sense as on Windows/Linux you could download from someone and may they only have a partial or a copy not fully updated so you'd eventually hit the net for the rest of the files.

If theres no check for game versions you may just be hitting the fallback without any feedback or change to indicate to the user NONE of the data could be grabbed locally.

Yeah, from what I gather it seems like it's going straight to the internet fallback. Doesn't make much sense to do this but continue to tell the user that the game is being transferred locally.
Its doesn't in design choice but it does from a developer choice. Despite this forum section's beliefs Mac are not popular for gaming. It may just be this cases was never considered and tested so doesn't have an event programmed to take care of this.
