Can't connect still! Please help!

I've searched everywhere on the Steam Forums and have tried several fixes to but nothing worked so far. I'm on a fresh install of OS X 10.8.5 and can't connect to steam.

The problem:
After installing steam, I launch the application, it updates, then the login window opens, I enter info, then check email to get login code, I enter login the code and click finish. Then a new window opens saying "Connecting to Steam account: username"

At this point it just stays there and does not connect. I've waited 20 mins to see if it would load but no luck. I always have to force quit after this to shut down the program. In the forced quit window it says Steam not responding.

For solutions, I have tried:

Making sure my Firewall is off. (It's off and I never use it.) I also don't use LittleSnitch

I have tried going to library/application support/steam and deleting all files except SteamApps but it didn't solve the problem.

I've tried deleting ClientRegistry.blob which also didn't work.

I've tried launching Steam from Terminal which launched the application but ended up with the same result as when I launch it the normal way.

I've also deleted Steam and Steam folder from application support and reinstalled several times but it hasn't worked.

I've also tried logging into the Steam website first, then launching the Steam app but it made no difference.

Finally, a few days ago I opened a ticket with Steam and have had no response yet.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

Hi, yes I've tried restarting my computer, reinstalling, removing Steam folder, all that good stuff. I even tried installing older versions of Steam, they always update no problems but then it just hangs when the window pops up saying "Connecting to Steam account: username". I downloaded CoD from the Mac App store and it works online with no problems so I doubt my computer is blocking any connections.

Still have an open ticket with Steam but no reply yet.

Is there another solution someone can suggest?

UPDATE: Steam working! Yesterday I tried logging in again and forgot about it, started surfing the web and after about a half hour Steam suddenly logged in. It had been loading all that time. From there I was able to download CS:GO very quickly and gameplay has been good so far. It's strange because my connection to Steam seems fast in terms of downloading games and updating, it's just the logging in that takes a really long time. At least it works though. I'll start searching the forum to try and figure out how to connect more quickly. Cheers.
