Optimizing a Mac(book) for gaming.
Ok, so I've been researching how to optimize macs to make them better handle steam games and so far I have got nothing. I know you can't over-clock the GPU and that most forums I've looked into offer little to no actual help. A couple tweaks in system settings doesn't make any damn improvement. I understand some terminal "talk" but anything sudo- I try to stay away from after deleting my client and making it impossible to delete items forced me to reset my Macbook.
If this helps, here is my hardware.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012)
2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
APPLE SSD SD128E Media

First, the intel graphics won't get you far, you probably should have gotten a geforce model. Second, generally, depending on the game, the problem isn't your mac so much as poorly optimized games, so you might be better off looking into tweaking game settings.

Aside from that, disabling background stuff can give you a boost. OS X likes to keep things running, so you may need to use terminal a bit.

And then, there's programs like OnyX, you can use to mess with different options and hidden functions without terminal.
