"Steam needs to be online to update" on Mac

Hi, I'm new to Steam and I'm using the last version on Mac, but I can't seem to open the steam app... It's always telling "Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again". My wifi is working so I don't know what is the problem.. Could you help me please ? Thank you :)

Here's some things that I would try to get it working, if one doesn't work go to the next.

-Reinstall steam, this will automatically update it to the most recent version of steam, make sure that all files associated with steam are deleted when re-installing
-Disable anti-virus as it may be stopping the download
-Disable proxy setting
-Change the DNS server
-Run as administrator
