Can't install games
I recently purchased two new games, and when I go to install them I get the "creating local game cache files/preparing [game name] files for install" window, but eventually it just times out. I uninstalled and reinstalled steam, and I'm not having any issues with games I had previously downloaded.
Any advice would be appreciated!

UPDATE:
I am now not even able to open steam, getting the "Failed to load steamui.dylib" error. This is now going to be the THIRD time in 72 hours that I have had to completely uninstall and reinstall it.

I've have the same issue, every game I try to install gives me a timeout dialog.

Have tried full re-install (which then had issues of not being able to launch until I ran the manual updater from the bundle, and deleted the extended attributes from the app as described in the sticky threads)

Nothing seems to be making a difference

I have the same issue. two games (the promised Land and ballad of solar) were purchased by myhusband in a win pc and offered me the games for my mac. Both games are installed by steam with 0 bytes of 0 bytes. None of the games are properly installed, and in the win PC they are ok. So this is clearly a problem on mac environment that needs to be fixed, since the games are supposed to be working on mac.
thanks

I can't really help to solve this problem but if no one can, just know you can get your money back ( http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/ )

Nor I think you can just have official support for those kind of issues (buy something and not being able to use it).

Thanks, I think that's what I'm going to end up doing if I can't figure it out by the end of the weekend. I've already devoted a fair amount of time to trying to make it work, but at this point it's just not worth the frustration.

I have the exact same issue! I'm going crazy trying to solve it. It sucks that mac support is so minimal.

Due to an unexpected compatibility issue between new OS X security features and our January 1 update, some users may see an error message saying "Failed to load steamui.dylib" which prevents Steam from starting up properly.

If this happens to you after Steam restarts itself for an update, there are two options. First, please try the directions at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638 to refresh your local files (including a system restart).

If the problem still continues after a restart, you may need to perform a full re-installation of the Steam application (but not your games). To do this, drag the Steam application to the Trash. You will be prompted to Keep or Discard related files - you should choose KEEP in order to retain your saved games and local downloads. (If you do not see a prompt, then your saved files will not be deleted, as the default behavior is Keep.)

Empty the trash, verify that Steam is no longer an application on your system, and then fully restart your Mac. The restart step is very important, do not skip it!

You can then download and reinstall Steam from this website (Install Steam link at top of page) after the reboot, and the issue should be gone. ifo thanks to "hankr from Valve"

Thanks for the options. I have tried to a you've suggested, yet it doesn't work for me. Games do not install and keeps saying it lacks its executable files...
Thanks anyway...

It's not related to this as far as I can tell, nor is it related to the extended data issue.

Either way, I still can't install anything.

Yeah I've been through re-installing the app a number of times, checking permissions, all sorts of troubleshooting. But unfortunately nothing has worked. Any futher support from the steam team would be greatly appreciated.

Been through that a number of times. uninstalled, flushed the config files, wiped the application support folder. None of that has any effect on the issue.

The more I investigate this issue, the more i believe it to be a permissions issue. I went to my windows partition and installed a game and came back over to the mac side. It recognized the install but obviously didn't have a mac executable, so I ran verify file integrity, which also seems to just hang there.
