Issues Mac Space
I am trying to install a game which I have more than enough space for, but when I begin downloading it, it is taking up substantially more space than initially specified and I'm stuck without any space. So I tried to use an external drive (clearing DL cache, etc.) and it is still having issues, but this time it is saying my external (new, empty, 2TB) does not have enough space. Anyone know how to solve this issue?

It should have been fixed in the May 12th update.

Make sure you are on the correct version.

I'm on this version and it still throws "the not enough disk space" exception. I have 116GB of free storage on my external SSD and it can't download 50MB patch :)

Not helping, tried to update and reinstalled steam. Neither helped
It seem like that May 12th version is excatly what caused this trouble

Same problem here , looks to be thee steam client update that has caused this

Until yesterday I haven't had any trouble - but today I have the exact same problem. On my internal hard drive (litte one) I can easily install games. On my external SSD with enough space I get always the same issue "not enough space xx MB". Haven't changed my OS or anything else. I hope somebody can help!

I think it's a bug in the latest client, we have to wait for a fix.

been a problem for at least two days, tried all the solutions google throws out. Last throw effort of even deleting the game files along with fresh install of steam leaves me with not even being able to play rimworld. Great update steam

Same issue since the 12th May update

Contacted steam twice , and now they are saying it’s basically my hardware that’s at fault 🤦‍♂️ I suppose it’s 1 way of losing Mac users , update then tell us it’s our fault it doesn’t work 👍🏻

First answer Steam Support (I have written in German so Google translate will translate it for you now):

Hello,

Thank you for your message to the Steam Support Team. External hard drives are not recommended for use with Steam or Steam games. Aside from many potential performance issues, external hard drives can connect and disconnect from the computer at inconvenient times as part of their normal operation. If you're having this problem with an external hard drive, install Steam and your games on an internal hard drive instead.

I replied now:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have always used external hard drives with Steam and have never had any problems with them.
I use fast SSDs. In addition, the internal memory of my end devices is limited.

Due to an update, it is no longer possible to install or move games to an external hard drive. This only came about with your last patch. Before that there was never a problem.
Many Mac users have limited internal storage, especially on mobile devices.

It can't be the solution to tell all Mac users now (see links to forum) that they can no longer use Steam?!

Kind regards

P.S.:
If I have the wrong contact person in you, please forward my ticket to the appropriate department.

Best for y'all to report the issue in the Steam Client Beta Bug Reports forum (beta and stable are currently at parity): https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/

You could add your info to this bug report: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/5154944131334849024/ .
They specify exFAT as the file system in the title, so if you post there best to include your drive's file system if it's not exFAT.
