Just wanted to say that the "cheapest" mac is £649 and has the m2 chip (now yes you'll have to upgrade for the ssd and the ram but that's not £3500).
I assume most mac bought at that price are macbook, and in that case there are others factors.
And even if we only focus on performances, it comes really close between 2 laptops (mac and windows) at the same price, not in gaming of course, but in some task where software is optimised for mac (and thinking gaming is the only way to show performance is a mistake in my opinion)
But we are talking about gaming, and I've already said multiple times that I use a MBP M2 Max for work because it offers good battery life and performance. My XPS with a 12900HK easily beats my M2 Max running performance heavy tasks, however, it runs the battery down in 2 hours.
There are no more current Macs with Intel. So it would be time to update this old software years ago.
I know I'm not really contributing much to this thread, but my hope is that one more person shouting to make this happen will make our voices just a little bit louder.
i don't understand the discussion here about the performance of m1. valve released a device last year, which is much weaker than m1 and i am sure it is sold much less than apple m1 devices. apple arcade is the most popular arcade service on the world and in the upcoming years, ipad users will have the same hardware and it will be more popular.
apple is the dominating market leader in gaming business. not steam. google has also more revenue than steam. and those companies are making about 70% of their revenues from gaming business.
believe or not, gaming is not only the aaa games as like red dead redemption 2. i am telling this as someone, who owns a rx 6800 xt. there are actually many games, which are available on apple silicon. there are many games, which requires not so much hardware power and every single purchase is important for independent developers. steam can even sell arm based games on the store. if you can buy x86_64 games on your iphone or android app, why not buying arm based games or in-game content on windows computers.
70% percent of web visitors are using arm devices. a similar ratio is also applis to the gaming world. microsoft didn't pay 70 billion usd to Activision for Call of Duty. The most of the money was paid for Candy Crush. I can play RDR 2 on my Gaming PC or Xbox. But at the same time I can play Psychonauts 2, Divinity 2, Civilization or even Resident Evil 8 on my Macbook. What's wrong with that.
That's great. I'm going to spread the word.
off the top of my head i believe these are both native apple silicon
Timberborn
Baldurs Gate 3
Prodeus as well but even when you buy it on steam you have to launch the app outside of steam to use the native build, which wouldn't be a problem if steam was updated to native arm.
There are hundreds of native games, both big and small titles, and more are coming. There is a list at https://www.applegamingwiki.com/wiki/M1_native_compatible_games_list. The list is not complete though. Here are just some:
- The Medium (upcoming)
- No Man's SKy (upcoming)
- Grid Legends (upcoming)
- RE Village + DLC Shadow of Rose
- Disney Dreamlight
- Baldur's Gate 3
- Prodeus
- Disco Elysium
- Myst
- Farming Sim 2022
- Gas Station Sim
- SimCity 4 Deluxe
- RollerCoaster Tycoon 3

and more...
