Native Apple M1-Family Support
Why doesn't the Steam app natively support the Apple M1 processor? When I look at the Activity Monitor, it looks Intel-based, when do you plan to build an arm(apple)-based application?

This is some fanboy level crap right here.

Sorry to bust your bubble but more people are playing PC games on Steamdecks already than on Macs.

Plus $450 to get a Steam deck vs $1000+ to get a Macbook with less RAM?

Its a no brainer.

I was just trying to say that Apple is earning more money with gaming than Microsoft rn, so it is not wise to ignore them as a developing platform imo.

.....from appstore games....... That has nothing to do with Macs..........

Man, just more ad homs. Ironically you've added nothing to this thread but childish behavior while trying to harp on my name.

You must feel very grown and mature.
So uh, have you figured out where the Steam Client uses Vulkan or any low level graphic api?

Just wondering if you looked it up between looking up the definition of “ad hom”

I didn't have to look up ad hom, thats just another ad hom. And again I'm tired of explaining the obvious.

Almost no real games use's Apples pointless proprietary API and as far as I can tell BG3 seems to be the only real M1 native game that isn't some mobile port despite Mac bros claiming theres a huge list of native games only to then admit they are either Intel builds or using some other compat layer.

Valve isn't going to jump through pointless hoops to port their games to use Apple's lame API let alone that AND port to ARM for less than 1% of their userbase.

And due to Apple choosing not to use Vulkan that means Proton isn't an option.

Valve isn't going to release a client for a game library thats next to useless for Apple silicon.

Why would they make a client for a platform they are no longer offering game support for?

So the Steam Client doesn’t use Vulkan? It’s just a glorified web browser like everyone knows it is?

You’re clearly the most intelligent third grader here, care to explain why a web browser is so difficult to port?

A web browser which has already been ported to arm64 by the people who made it, more to the point.

(I told myself I was done replying to this thread. Damn it.)

All I see is "Blocked user" now for the most part, it's pointless arguing with that person who has no actual evidence that what he says about Valve discontinuing Mac support is remotely true other than "some Mac contracted developers said so", which that in and of itself would be a breach of contract and I highly doubt anyone would jeopardize a working contract with Valve over leaking news like that... dude is a major troll

To the people who may read this aside from the individual above:

For context: I have spoken off the record with Mac developers who are contracted to work on the MacOS Steam Client.

Valve contracts out the ports because they don’t have a single Mac in their offices anymore, and are only focused on Linux and Windows development.

Several Contractors have not had their contracts renewed, and the team is shrinking year over year. The ones that remain are nervous about their contract renewals.

Valve is signaling that they are phasing out the MacOS client slowly, and will likely pull the plug in a few years time. Because it saves them money, and what better way to solidify their own operating system than to drop a competitor in a weak position?

The poster above clearly wants sources on record, from CNN or Reuters or some ♥♥♥♥. Clearly in denial that Valve would do this.

Anyway, nobody has to believe me, sure. But it’s on you if Valve sunsets their Mac client and you’re not prepared for it.

it's ridiculous that after years there is NO native steam Mac client, that is actually is just another electron-based crap

Every platform has the CEF-based ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ now, it's not a uniquely Mac problem.

Well to be fair they cannot force devs to make a 64 bits versions nor completely remove every games that are "32 bits", the problem with 32 bits and Valve is that steam doesn't properly flag those games as 32 bits or 64 bits (basically a checkbox developers have to manually check/uncheck).

It's been more than 3,5 years dude, I think after 3,5 years you expect some improvement or update like that, yes.

Yeah clearly, it's obvious that the mac version is left behind, with that said they cannot just "remove" 32bit apps right now at least because they don't even flag it properly.

They did actually. Look at all the 32 Bit Games in the Store, they all come with a flag "this game is not compatible with catalina or newer". - So that can't be it :P

They didn't, this is a toggle developers have to manually check/uncheck, there is no verification from Valve, a lot of games shown as 32 bits are actually up to date (examples from my library : oneshot, geometry dash), and it can work the opposite way : games without this flags can actually be 32 bits although that's rare.

Btw it was Valve themselves who announced that 32Bit Mac Games will disappear from the store before the end of the year 2023, not me.
