Steam won't write to external hard drive.
I have an external hard drive that I added as a steam library several years ago, hadn't used it for a while, and now steam won't recognise games on it.

I tried to repair and then recreate the folder on the hard drive but now Steam says the drive is read only, which I have gone to several layers of folders to make sure isn't the case. When I attempt to create the new folder it either says "Drive must be writeable" or "Folder creation failed drive is read only"

All resolutions I've seen have been for windows and involve systems or procedures I can't perform such as launching Steam as an administrator so I was hoping asking here might help.
