I'm at my wit's end -- Steam won't open
It's been a few years since I booted up Steam on my Mac, and last night I really wanted to play some Crusader Kings with my gf. But when I opened Steam, it wouldn't let me update the game or anything else. Then it crashed. Now when I try to open Steam I get the apple error message "Steam quit unexpectedly."

I deleted Steam, restarted my computer, and redownloaded the software only to get the same error message. I've tried everything, looking for old steam files hidden on my hard drive that might be messing with the new version, but nothing. I know some people have issues with 34bit games not running on newer systems or 64bit not running on older systems, I wonder if this is why? I checked for software updates and I'm up-to-date already. My Mac runs OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 (if that helps at all).

Regardless, I've tried everything I know and Steam is not working on my Mac. I'm pissed. I spent money on these games and DLCs, and now I can't access them without buying a new laptop or shelling out $400 for a steam deck (which I'm considering). Here is the relevant information from the error report apple created

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000008
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Steam no longer supports or works on Mac OS 10.11 and 10.12.

Additionally, updating to Mac OS 10.13 or 10.14 will only be a stopgap measure as these are already unsupported and will stop being able to run the Steamclient when the next CEF update rolls out, which can be any day from now on.

I had similar problem. When I tried to launch my game SteamVR would give error 301 - lacking key component of SteamVR. Customer support sent this reply and it fixed the problem. Hope it works for you.
The 301 issue should be resolved with the latest SteamVR beta 2.4.4 release. You can read more about this here:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/250820/view/4146199229164808107

To get access to the beta, do the following:

• Right click SteamVR in your library
• Select properties
• Navigate to the beta tab
• From the drop down menu, select "beta - SteamVR beta update."
• Once closed, SteamVR will close and begin to update.

Release notes will be posted for each version on:
