Steam for Mac OS X 10.6.8
Can I download a version of Steam that will work under 10.6.8? Can't upgrade to 10.7 right now, and I just purchased a game that needs Steam to activate.

Seems like Steam doesn't support any longer 10.6. Best choice is ddl last update El Capitan for free if you feel like and if your hw is good enough. Don't buy or install 10.7, obsolete. I have 10.8.5 and it works perfectly with Steam.

What doesn't work with 10.7.0? Steam? According to the page from which I downloaded it, it does.

Of course, 10.7 is obsolete. So is my computer. Nowhere close to being up to running El Cap. Were there major issues with 10.7 that I'm not aware of?

What does A3A3A3A3A3 mean? Yeah, what? Do any moderators or tech support people peruse these boards, so I can get an intelligent answer?

Steam should work on 10.7 as good (as bad) as on 10.11. I mean, if they had to emulate things like close, minimize and maximize window buttons instead of using the system ones I don't think they are using many Apple API's anyway.
The issue with 10.7 is that it's lacking iCloud integration which you might not care about and Gatekeeper protection which you should care about. If your computer is at least 2007-2008 model go for 10.8. It's a refinement-focused release and I don't think you're loosing anything by running that instead of 10.7.

Byakka, THANK YOU! Finally, someone with something useful to say. Now, if I can only figure out when this computer was made. I've been told there's supposed to be a decal on the back, but I'm not seeing it. And I don't have the original box... Bought it used two years ago, and it hadn't been used much by previous owner, so I think it must be newer than 2007

Click  in the top left corner and go to About This Mac, your model year should be there. Check everymac.com if you need more info.

Yeah, I went to Apple's support and found what I needed to know. Mid-2010, so I should be good with 10.8. Thanks again for your assistance.
