I have a M2 Mac. There are some bugs but it's overall fine.

Hopefully, after Apple's event, there will be more hope for better compatibility and more selection in the coming months, years. And Valve might just give the MAC client more love in the process.

Valve is reportedly considering dropping Mac support entirely. They’ve been wavering back and forth based on what Apple is doing.

So, the reason I had asked this is because I had been trying to get my mom get Steam setup on her new M2 Pro. It was failing to start at all. It took some effort, but I think I know what the issue was. I'll share it here in the hopes that it might help someone.

She had an old MacBook Air with an Intel CPU before she just got this new M2 Pro. We transferred everything from that old Mac to the new one. I think Steam was copied over as a part of that transfer. And I think the Intel executable got transferred too.

What ended up working was uninstalling Steam and completely uninstalling and removing it. This isn't as simple as a normal uninstall on a Mac.

Steam support gave me this link: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/30EB-87BF-531F-512D

After that we installed it from scratch again and it just worked. And she's good to go.
