New or upcoming Mac games
Last summer Apple announced RE Village, No Man's Sky and Grid Legends coming to Apple Silicon. RE Village and Winters' Expansion with Shadows of Rose have been released exclusively on Mac App Store. https://www.residentevil.com/village/us/mac/

NMS for Mac and Grid Legends for Mac are coming this year.

This year Apple has kicked off its gaming event early and had a press show with some upcoming games for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Here are the games shown at the event: https://9to5mac.com/2023/02/17/apple-event-gaming-iphone-mac/

- Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile
- Honkai: Star Rail
- Lego Starwars castaways
- Run Legends
- The Medium

The Medium coming to Mac has "very positive" reviews on Steam and uses UE4. Bloober Team has previously released Brawl, Layers of Fear and Observer on Mac but their last Mac game was Observer from 2017. They now make a comeback for "Apple Silicon Mac Lineup" after 6 years.

They plan a release this summer according to their tweet: https://twitter.com/TheMediumGame/status/1626237105042239490

Apple's new strategy seems to be sponsoring game devs financially? in exchange for exclusive titles on MAS, a similar path to Valve's solution to the lack of games on SteamOS. By helping developers like Capcom and Hello games financially? Apple helps to port new game engines to Mac which will be useful and cheaper for porting future titles. I think that’s a good solution and start, helping devs to port their engines and their first Mac game for exclusive titles on MAS.

It remains to see if such exclusive titles will come to Steam in the future.

In other news Crossover's new update 22.1 offers great news for me personally and others. Many old 32-bit games now work great. My favorite Bioshock Infinite which I barely could play on my iMac 2011 is one so now I can finish it on my M1 Max. Other 32-bit games now working great are Borderlands 1 and Calll of Duty 2.

OMG. I can't believe they did it. They ported Cliff Empire to Macs. I prefer Steam but I'm okay with it being on MAS.

Apple announced also "Game Mode" and "Game Porting Kit".
https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2023/06/macos-sonoma-brings-new-capabilities-for-elevating-productivity-and-creativity/

"To make it easier to port games from other platforms to Mac, Metal introduces a new game porting toolkit, eliminating months of upfront work and enabling developers to see how well their existing game could run on Mac in just a few days. It also dramatically simplifies the process of converting the game’s shaders and graphics code to take full advantage of Apple silicon performance, significantly reducing the total development time."

"macOS Sonoma also introduces Game Mode, giving players an edge when performance is measured in precious milliseconds. Game Mode delivers an optimized gaming experience with smoother and more consistent frame rates, by ensuring games get the highest priority on the CPU and GPU. Game Mode also makes gaming on Mac even more immersive — dramatically lowering audio latency with AirPods, and significantly reducing input latency with popular game controllers like those for Xbox and PlayStation by doubling the Bluetooth sampling rate. Game Mode works with any game, including all of the recent and upcoming Mac games."
What if "Game Mode" is a CPU/GPU overclocking feature, not by the user but by the system? We know that Apple usually underclocks Macs to be cool and silent but on desktops Macs like Mac Studio with huge cooling fans and always remaining at around 50 degrees C even in games you have a large headroom to the temperatures we've seen on laptops, up to 105 degrees C. That would be a nice feature to boost performance where it's possible.
I hope Steam runs in visionOS... We need Half Life Alyx ported over to it.

I’m almost certain that the clock rate on the M series is locked. And there’s no boost feature like on x86.

And as well, we don’t know if Apple Silicon would be stable at those clock speeds.

Not on the GPU side. Apple GPUs have proved to not always run at the highest speed possible so it's not about running at higher speed than possible but not running at a lower speed to keep cool.
It looks like Game Porting Toolkit is bigger than we thought people. Apparently Apple has basically made a DX 12 emulator/translator running in realtime under Rosetta 2. It's far more advanced than Crossover's solution being worked on and maybe a reason Valve stopped Proton's development for MacOS. Apple has also made the Toolkit code Open Source letting anyone including it in their software, like Codeweavers and Wine project. This sounds like a huge step!

Codeweaver just made an announcment about Apple Game Porting Toolkit. A win-win situation!

"We are ecstatic that Apple chose to use CrossOver’s source code as their emulation solution for the Game Porting Toolkit. We have decades of experience creating ports with Wine, and we are very pleased that Apple is recognizing that Wine is a fantastic solution for running Windows games on macOS. We did not work with Apple on this tool, but we would be delighted to work with any game developers who try out the Game Porting Toolkit and see the massive potential that Wine offers. Our PortJump™ team has perfected the art and science of creating ports of Windows applications using our Wine technology, and we welcome inquiries about how we can help get your game working on macOS.

We are also excited by the potential that the Game Porting Toolkit can offer CrossOver. We announced last week that we have preliminary DirectX 12 support on macOS coming in CrossOver 23, and we are eager to build on that momentum."

I also saw that Hello Games' latest game The Last Campfire was already ported to Mac on MAS so people complaining NMS is old can play that one instead. :)
Resident Evil Village is on sale again and the number one best selling game on MAS.
Just after a major release on Mac Hello Games now announced a new expedition.
