CIv 6 won't start - damaged?
After recent update of Steam I was unable to start CIv6 and would get the error message OSerror 4294956486. After much mucking around this error message disappeared after I update my OS to ventura.

However now I still cannot start Civ6 as each time I try I get a message that it is damages and I should move to the bin. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both Steam and Civ6, and verified all the files but this has not made a difference

Hopefully there is someone who has solved this problem before

I appear to be having the same issue,

“Civilization VI” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

I purchased Civ VI today and I am having the same issue. I am able to download and install but unable to ... Verifying “Civilization VI”

I have followed all the suggest steps, clearing cache; uninstalling and reinstalling; quitting and rebooting both Steam and my laptop.

I have not been able resolve. Any assistance is appreciated!

I found this and it worked for me! Hope this helps others.

For the people experiencing this issue, Aspyr has responded with a possible fix:
1. Reinstall the Civilization VI.
2. Select "Play" from the Steam library.
3. After the "Verifying" prompt appears and completes, close the damaged error prompt, select "Cancel".
4. Then, open the Mac System Settings.
5. Select "Privacy and Security"
6. Under "Security" you should see a prompt saying "Civilization VI was block..."
8. Click the "Open Anyway" button under this text.
9. Enter your laptop system password, if prompted.
10. Then select "Open" on the security prompt.
11. Your game should now launch

Found this workaround in a different thread, and it worked for me.

Go into your General settings for the game, and in the Launch Options paste the following:
/Users/YOUR_USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/Civ6.app/Contents/MacOS/Civ6_Exe

Replace YOUR_USER with your computer's info.
Civ VI was working fine for me until I updated to Ventura last night. I'm running a Mac Studio...

@Welshman.. i am running a macbook pro and i am new to computers.. when you stated "replace YOUR_USER.." what would be my computers info? Sorry about a question that may seem basic:(

Notice that Civ VI now requires 10.14.6 Mojave an no longer works on older macOS.

As of Jan 10, 2023 Aspyr is saying that the latest patch they released has fixed this problem. It did for me. I had already deleted the game to try fixing it so I re-installed and with the patch now applied it all started up without issue.

https://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/articles/10803148697997-Civilization-VI-won-t-launch-after-the-latest-update-Mac

@jerrystarner1975 “YOUR_USER” would be replaced with the name of your home folder on your Mac. Usually when you open a finder window in the sidebar at left there will be a list of favourites and beside a little house icon will be the user name. In my case it is my first name, In your case that might be Jerry, or Jerry Starner or …

The other place it appears is at the bottom of the finder window as a breadcrumb. For instance:
Macintosh HD - Data > Users > Jerry

Hope this helps.
