Every game freezes on mac
Whenever I try to launch a game, the game gets the spinning pinwheel of death. This occurs after a few seconds when launching the game. It doesn't matter what game i played. The games just froze up showing the spinning pinwheel of death and never comes out of it. The only solution to close the game is to force quit it.

Games tested:
- Portal
- Team Fortress 2
- Robocraft
- Unturned
- etc.

System Info:
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
- Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
- Intel Core i5 2.6 GHz
- 8 GB RAM
- Intel iris 5100 graphics

Lot's of us have had the same issue since the August 19 update, it's been reported many times, they haven't fixed it.

Oh, I see now. So Mac games didn't always used to crash a lot since the update. Does anyone know what Valve changed to cause this problem?

Probably an update that works with the newer OS only as 1 thing. You are 2 OS's behind, you realize that? It's going to be 3 in a few weeks when MacOS Sierra comes out.

Yes I understand that my OS is really out of date. I keep experiencing problems whenever I upgrade. As a result, I have to keep reinstalling the original OS that shipped with my Mac. Hopefully the upcoming update won't be an issue.

What kind of issue? ( I use to work for Apple )

Because macs are ♥♥♥♥ and not made for gaming by a desktop is my advice

I have all the same features on my mac, except I'm on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and so far haven't had any trouble running games that macs are supposed to be able to run. Maybe it's just time to update the OS X

My Mac ran OS 9.5 & Steam & TF2 perfectly to the August 19th update, from that date many have posted the same "Engine Error" problem. Last night I upgraded the OS to the latest IOS, the same problem happens loading servers.
It's not the IOS, it's something Steam did with the August 19th update.

People mentioning OS X not being designed for gaming doesn't help anything. If this was 25 years ago, maybe that might apply but for many years, Apple has been working to make gaming better on the mac.

The issue that exists now is because of Valve's end, it has nothing to do with Apple.

Let me say something about gaming on the Mac. I know a lot of people say that Macs are not designed for gaming. The truth is, the hardware can game just fine, as long as you don't try to push the graphics to an insane level. It may be OS X that might not be able to play games very well. I know this because I installed windows 10 via bootcamp, and every game worked like 10X better. Does anyone else agree?

I don't know about 10x's better but the main reason they tend to work more often is because developers will pay more attention to detail for the Windows side than the Mac side because more people use it. Apple has been focusing more on gaming in the past few years and most recently with the introduction of Metal ( look up Metal (API) so things should be getting better not worse.

Thats why it falls on the developers or whoever is in charge of the updates, to not fix 1 thing and mess up 10 others. I've had TF2 for years and never once had an issue like this until this recent update, and have been using a mac since 2007.

I think this discussion about windows vs. macs isn't relavent.

I play TF2 at full options and it works just fine, until they throw out an update that gives new hats or something useless. It's almost 2 weeks now and after trying every fix possible it still gives the same error code. It's just not one player, we all got the same bug on the same day with a particular update.
TF2 works fine on my Mac-- I got a MacBook Pro Retina 2015 15" w/ Radeon m370X GPU w/ 2 GB Video memory and 16GB RAM running Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan.
