Does Steam still support OS 10.6.8.?
I ask Steam support several times but they won't answer this question.

It all started with the infamous 'failed to load steamui.dylib' problem.
I realized that all recommended solutions didn't work for me.

Somebody on the forum mentioned that Steam won't support OS 10.6.8. anymore. Like I mention, I ask Steam support but they never responded to This question.

If it's true, Steam people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They should have make an official announcement instead of going back and force with me for weeks!
Also what about my games that I can't access anymore? I paid money for them and want a refund! They should have been honest from the beginning.

I'm sorry but I'm really pissed. Can't play my games and Superhot is out and I can't play this game on other platforms because everything is linked to Steam.

I'd appreciate some answers from you guys. The uncertainty kills me.

Oh cool, thank you!
I'm relieved but at the same time still pissed because Steam is not working and Support was like: "Yeah, we can't help..cherio". I need to make another post that details my problem, maybe you guys are able to help.

Hi, I'm currently using 10.6.8 and am unable to get steam to install. It downloads and extracts, then a message comes up saying it might not be compatible with the version of OSX I'm running. Any ideas?
MuskratFarms Jun 17, 2016 @ 1:48am
Officially, Steam does not support 10.6.8 anymore, and hasn't for a few months now
DragonflyUltra Jun 17, 2016 @ 10:39am
So what is it?

I'm so tired of how steam treats it's customers. No official announcement what so ever. I've got snow leopard and I heard from several people that steam doesn't support it anymore. Support won't answer this question.

Do you guys know where I can get an official confirmation? I'm trying to fix this problem, but if it's all about upgrading to a higher version, e.g. Tiger, I can stop wasting my time.

If I have to upgrade to a higher version, steam should stop lying. Also I can't upgrade right now because I don't have enough space on my computer (I think you need a minimum of 6GB to install tiger and I got only 3GB left, right now).

In addition, why should we be forced to upgrade?

Please somebody help, the confusion is killing me!

I'm going to ask support one last time! It says a lot that they never answered this simple question. Compatible: Yes or No. I gonna let you know about their response (if they respond at all!)

That's a copy of my message to steam:

"My OS is 10.6.8.-Snow Leopard.

I can't open steam anymore.

Several community members with the same problem stated that Steam is not supporting snow leopard anymore.

In addition, several community members (snow leopards) who tried to install steam received the message that their OS might be 'outdated' and it's not possible for them to install Steam.

Could please let me know if you're still supporting snow leopard?

Thank you"

Official statement (or as close as you'll probably get to an official statement) is here from September last year: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/announcements/detail/51020330614098510

Thanks for the replies. A simple scroll to the bottom of the installation page treats you with a "Mac OSX 10.7 or higher" requirement, silly me for not checking. Now I cant decide which version of OSX I should upgrade from SL to on my MBP 2009 lol. A free El Capitan or maybe Mountain Lion?

Also Tiger is even older than Snow Leopard so getting that wouldn't help Dragonfly, you'd need at least Lion ($20). El Capitan (10.11) is free, but I'm worried the performance decrease will be too much for my older MBP :/

Thank you so much for the link. So my question is answered. I still wonder why Steam never bothered to answer this simple yes or no question.

Yes, I meant El Captain. Tbh, who would think to scroll down to the button of the installation page? Particular when everything is fine and from one day to the other Steam is not working anymore. In addition, all Mac users had problems at first. I spend weeks back and force with the support team. They knew my OS. version everything. I asked them several times if it got something to do with me using Snow Leopard. No answer!! They're the biggest trolls. They still haven't replied to my latest request and they won't.

I'm still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because I'll need 6GB to install El Captain on my Mac but I only got 3GB left. So I need to sort out this problem before I can install a new OS. Tbh, I'm happy with SL and I'm also worried about a possible performance decrease.

Thank you guys for helping me to get to the bottom of it. Seriously, a few days we the community-problem solved. VS. weeks with Steam support- no answers!

I haven't actually played any games at all yet on this MBP, but I dual booted El Capitan to compare how default apps ran compared to SL. You can tell some apps take slightly longer to open (maybe a second, if any), but realy overall the performance decrease is hardly noticable.

El Capitan actually made way better use of my CPU. It uses ~300MB more ram than SL idling, but increased my battery life significantly. My system also seems to run cooler, I can set my fans to a lower RPM than I previously had and maintain the temps I want. I find Capitan more visually apealing as well, I like the slight changes they've made to the UI.

As far as the OS goes I like it better than SL, even with the difference in app launch times. Unfortunately I have nothing to compare in-game with, and this is really only relevant if you're using a MBP 2.66Ghz Core2 & 8GB RAM lol.

Well, the fundamental problem is another, and you should focus on it and take it more seriously.
That is auto-update of Steam Client and auto-update of Games. Later generally is not a big problem because it stop updating after years pass.
If you stop auto-update of Steam Client, passing years doesnt cause problems.
The problem here is , you have no way to stop auto-update of the Client, that means years pass and your purchased Games cant be played anymore steamsad:
