You need to call Apple.

Or go to Apple support forums... they can help you there. Apple.com

Why not 10.9?

You don't need to call apple to update your OS, just go to the Mac App Store and download the latest version.
Go to the Mac App Store. Just load up the Mac App Store in your Applications folder. And you don't want Mac OSX 10.8.x Mountain Lion, YOU WANT Mac OSX 10.9.4 Mavericks! Mavericks is the latest and greatest with OPENGL 4 for improved graphics and games performance and Mac OSX 10.10 is just around the corner which brings you near identical feature set of Direct X for Windows performance for Mac with OPENGL 4.4 and Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite will be out around October. both Mavericks and future Mac OSX are free. I suggest you get Mavericks in the meantime. Load up the Mac App store and search for Mavericks and install it and update it. You won't be sorry but glad. Some of my games' performance improved with Mavericks vs. Mountain Lion.

@ ultra magnus if OP knew any of the basics already he wouldnt' be asking here on the steam forums (obviously). So I assumed OP is either a child or seriously technically illiterate when it comes to mac machines, hence why he needs more guidance that what steam forums can provide. He might be on a machine that doesn't even support the latest version. Machines older than ? do not work with certain OS. I know this, I have an old 2006 MBP and other older machines that won't install to Mavericks at all even if it is free. Furthermore there are issues with certain older OS being removed from the App store entirely. So he is going to need more help than just going to app store and installing if he is on a machine like this.

See article below:

@OP if you are not a child , then my apologies. Believe me you will get a lot better support on the Apple forums and support lines for whatever your issues are.
