Everything Windows has done as features (UAC, Journaled Indexing, Disk encryption, etc) in the past 20 years has simply made it more Unix like, and therefore more Mac and Linux like.
In short... We are on the real computers, because we don't prefer our hardware to be ran by a mickey mouse operating system, such as Windows.
I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (Retina). While the "About this Mac" says that it has an Intel HD Graphics 4000, that's not the whole truth - the Macbook also has a Geforce GT 650M which it can switch to when needing more GPU power. To see that other GPU, you have to open the "System Information" which shows more details.
When I originally installed FC4 via Steam in Dec 2014 on that Mac running Windows 7, it was quite playable. I think I got a decent frame rate (ie. around 30 or better on average).
However, recently, for a few months now, FPS has dropped to 15-20 (even with the lowest resolution and the lowest graphics performance settings chosen in the game), making the game pretty much unplayable. I have no idea what changed. So I even deleted the entire Windows partition and re-installed Win 7. Yet, the frame rate remained bad. I wonder if FC4, which always requires to be up-to-date (and there's no way to go back to a version from 2014, rifht?) has made changes that now require bigger GPUs.
So, I paid for a game I can't suddenly play any more, and there's nothing to fix it, at least I cannot figure it out.
With that, I warn everyone who wants to play FC4 on a 2-years old MacBook (Pro). Maybe newer ones do better.
