Valve games won't start: Only one instance can be running at a time
Hi,

a few days ago, I can play Dota 2 just ok. But since yesterday, I get error "Only one instance of the game can be running at a time" every time I try to play Dota 2. Then today, I install TF 2, and I get the same error when trying to play TF 2.

I have looked at the activity monitory, but I cant find any dota, steam, or any related process running.

Need help for the solution.

I've had the same problem since Monday*. Nothing in the activity monitor that should be interfering, tried restarting computer and steam, tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, nothing works. I asked someone who had this problem a couple years ago and he said it randomly started working again a couple weeks later.

Does your store, community, and profile page also not load?
Hi,
Yes, it just suddenly happens. My store, community and profile page are still working though.

Is the screenshot below is the same error for you?

I will update here once it started working

I Have Had The Exact Same Problem For The Past Few Days, Heres What I've Tried To Fix It So Far ~

- Restart Computer
- Reinstall G-mod
- Extensively Search Activity Monitor For A Source File / exe Thats Open
- Delete The Steam Folder appcache (was recommended to try it from someone)
- Search The Web For A Fix

I've Noticed A-lot Of Mac Users Have Been Getting This In The Last Few Days And I Think That It's A Bug That Came With A Recent Steam Update, Hopefully It's Fixed Soon.

Next I Might Reinstall Steam Tbh And If That Doesn't Work I'll Probably Kms ;) And Please Tell Me If You've Found A Fix Plz ;)

WARNING - If You Are Looking For A Fix Make The Effort To Reply Saying You Have The Same Problem Otherwise Steam Will Do Nothing About This And It Could Take Weeks Or Even Months For A Fix.

Feel Free To Add Me On Steam If You Would Like To Help Me Troubleshoot etc.

Thanks,

~ Chaos ~

Hi, sorry.

If you mean the store, community and profile page in steam (not in browser), then yes. Somehow, those pages are not loaded from steam app. I think our problem is similar.

Seeing some other having the same problem, there might be something wrong in the last few days.

Hi there,

I tried deleting the appcache but it still stayed the same. I also extensively searched activity monitor for any source files and found nothing. Reinstalling steam also failed.
This has been going on for the past few days.

Ya, what Mac are you on? Asking because I'm on a pretty old laptop and am wondering if that could be part of the problem.

Everything described here (the "Source - Warning", store, community, and profile page not loading) has happened to me as well. And I have tried all methods of dealing with it (restart computer, restart steam, uninstall game (csgo), uninstall steam, extensive activity monitor search, and clearing download cache). Nothing has worked, I hope this doesn't turn into a mac epidemic ;-;

I don't think having an old laptop is the problem. I bought my mac 6 months ago and has el capitano at the moment.

The exact same problem has happened to me.

it just suddenly broke on the 3rd . its now the 7th and nothing has changed

I also cannot load any pages except for the library

It really seems like it has all happened recently for make users hopefully there is a fix because these are the only 2 games i play

I have the same issue, I am using my iMac but when I use my MacBook Pro in the Windows 7 OS, it does work. I hope Steam can do something about it.
