XBOX Controller problem

I'm using macos 10.15 and everything has been working fine for many years. However, I haven't started Steam and games for a long time. A year at least.
Last weekend I took some time to play and found out that my XBOX wireless controller is not working properly. It pairs correctly with the system. Works in games downloaded from App Strore (eg Asphalt), but in games from Steam it does not work. Oddly enough, it works in the Big Picture interface, but regardless of whether I launch the game this way or directly from the Steam client in games, it does not work. I checked in The Talos Principle, Cuphead, Chicken Invaders 5.
Does anyone know how to restore the former functionality?

Did you configure your controller in Big Picture mode? If not: first you have to go to “settings” on the Big Picture Mode start screen (one of the three buttons in the upper right hand corner of the screen), then select “controller settings” and turn “Xbox configuration support on. Exit your global settings and select the game you want to play in Big Picture, go to “manage game” then go to “controller configuration” and choose the controller set-up you like. I would recommend the standard config.

This might solve your problem. Controller support significantly improved in MacOS Monterey, but according to several forums Playstation controllers work much better under MacOS. I wish I knew that when I bought my Xbox wireless controller.

Yes.
As I wrote, earlier it worked, and I didn't change anything. Now, in the Big Picture mode itself (in its interface), it also works.
In games, unfortunately, it does not work.

Check if the Steam Overlay is enabled and if you can access it from the games.

(Steam > Preferences > In-Game.
Check if it's enabled there and note the keyboard shortcut (Shift+Tab by default)

Right-click the game in the Steam Library > Properties.
Check its also enabled there.

See if you can access it in-game)

When you have Xbox Configuration Support enabled, are you getting any Xbox 360 controllers showing up? If so, see if hiding them makes a difference (select one of them and press the Menu button on your controller). You should see a button at the bottom to undo the hide if it makes no difference.

Hi, are there any update on this topic. I have tried many way to config the xbox wireless controller for steam. Unfortunately, it does not work on the game Unrailed / Skul: The hero slayer. I have tried to different combinations (Game > Properties > Controller > Disable / Enable / Default). None of them work for my case. However, my controller work on the game Wizard of Legend (With Game Properties Controller Disable)

Also, I have tried to mess up with steam desktop configuration. No lucks. Any ideas how should I fix this case? Thanks for your time, and helps

As well as disabling things via the per-game override have you got Xbox Configuration Support disabled?
Are there any Xbox 360 controllers shown when Xbox Config Support is disabled?

* If I disable the steam ctrl in per game, the game (unrailed) will show me that it can detect a xbox controller (the game asked me to press A button). But, there are no responses from any buttons I pressed on the xbox ctrl
* I tried different combinations between the global xbox ctrl / per game settings. Unfortunately, I could not find one that work for my case.
