Steam not loading on Mac
Steam will not open on MAC. I downloaded the .dmg, and try to open it but it doesn't respond. I have re-downloaded, updated to new Monterey but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Exit Steam if you have it running
- Drag the Steam application from the location you installed it in (Applications by default) to the Trash.
- Open the Finder, Go to your Macintosh HD folder (access this from Devices in the left column).
- Hold down CMD-Shift-Period, All the hidden files will become visible.
- Next, go to User/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Steam.
- Delete all of the files and folders in the /Steam folder except for /SteamApps.
- Re-download Steam and reinstall the application.
- Launch Steam.app from your Dock or Applications folder.

That works just makes gaming too slow

Thank you so much, this helped after hours of trying to figure it out

Dear all,

Posted already my solution here
https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/4030223998571060821/

Repost, cause the whole uninstall process posted by Nep didn’t work for me. I did not login immediately (or fast enough) after login screen appeared.

Starting Steam, login screen appears, then some „black box“ appears with loading indicator and that’s it. Hanging on this screen and nothing happens anymore.
Mac M1 Pro, OS Sonoma 14.2.1

Done everything mentioned here and on other sites. Reboot, un-/reinstall Steam, flush cache and new install, delete all files except of the game folder and new install, delete all directories and new install - and always combined with some reboots.

Finally, the issue was not that Steam hangs at startup. The issue was, that the login screen is put to background when the „Stream Shop Advertisement“ screen appears. So, see this Steam screen loading, while I was not logged in. But I didn’t know this, because I could not see the login screen anymore.

Saw it accidentally on one try, but could not bring the login screen to front. Only the black Steam related screen (while task manager showed several steam tasks running).

Solutions that worked for me: grabbed the login screen on start, pulled it on side. After the black box „Steam Shop Ads“ appeared I had the login screen on side, could drag it on a free part of my monitor and login.

The Ad Screen loaded then, my library appeared and Steam „working again“.

Hope this helps you guys.
Wish you a happy new year.

Years later - Steam ios client is still horrendous. How does one go to "User/etc" ?

(my Aorus laptop has burned today from 4090 overheating, just 5 weeks of careful usage, apparently nVIDIA/Intel is a dead end)

Exact same problem. "Application Not Responding" with the option to force quit. Have you found a solution? Starting to accept I'll never play my Steam games again.

It has been an issue for me as well. I just got it to work though, not sure exactly how but these were my steps....

1. Drag steam app to trash
2.(forgot to "exit the app before trash" so I dragged it out of trash to the desktop.
3.Decided to re-launch the app because I was unsure if it had properly "closed"
4.The log in page popped up...

WEIRD!!!! Ive tried everything from deleting to re-install to following another forums suggestions on deletion process and nothing worked.. but the above did...

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
