I am having the same issue. Did you find a root cause or resolution? Did you have to re-install Steam or update your OS? I am running Big Sur 11.6 and wondering if we have to move to Monterey 12.0 to resolve.

Did you find a solution to this? I'm having the same issues. This is the first time I've opened Steam since I updated my Mac to 12.0.1 and I'm wondering if something in the update messed things up.

I'm having the exact same problem.

Basically solved it by installing the steam.dmg file again.

Can be one billion different reasons, you will be better trying common procedures such as reinstalling it all, but it seems your current hardware is either outdated or overloaded by the way the memory is handling the data.

My old mac had this issue, so I just got a new laptop at the end of 2021, an M1 running 12.0.1 Monterey. This computer has never heard of Steam before. Downloaded, installed, Steam did some updates, and then quit unexpectedly. I really hope somebody fixes this.
